Holborn Close, St Albans

A six month insulation upgrade to a property in St Albans with a large extension added both sides to both sides. The project featured 25mm re-enforced screed allowing for new underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. The property was completely refurbished inside with new flooring, kitchen and an mvhr system installed.
Apollo were appointed as main contractor for this job with the task of providing a refurbishment of the existing house and a first floor extension to one side and a single storey extension under an ambitious 7 month programme. The brief was to provide a comfortable and highly insulated living space for the client and his son. This meant a complete strip out of the house, providing underfloor heating throughout with a new reinforced screed finish. Triple glazed windows provide extra insulation which are taped to the newly plastered walls to make the property as air tight as possible. An MVHR system was installed to provide heat recovery providing fresh air into the property whilst recovering heat from the stale air. The extensions are an insulated internal timber frame with insulated plasterboard. Bricks externally to tie into the existing building. A hand cut roof ties the new roof into the existing. The project features some fabulous internal finishes the client had a very clear idea of what she wanted her new home to look like with LVT flooring, interesting use of tiles, including a “niche” for putting bottles and soaps, kitchen units with bespoke cupboard doors and a feature bespoke staircase designed by Apollo with a metal balustrade routered in to the string and handrail, importantly no newell post for the customer’s son to hang his coat on! Apollo was able to complete the project on budget and with the project timeline and the customer is delighted with their new living space.
